Frequently asked questions

Clear answers about hiring domestic workers and Latty Caregivers anywhere in South Africa.

Getting started

What does Latty Domestic Helpers Agency do?

We help South African households find domestic workers for cleaning, cooking, laundry and general chores, and Latty Caregivers for elderly care, childcare and special needs support at home. You tell us your suburb, schedule and needs; we shortlist suitable candidates.

Which areas do you cover?

We place staff in all nine provinces — major metros, townships and smaller towns. Browse our areas pages for your city or province, or call 084 239 6623 with your town name if it is not listed.

How do I request a domestic worker or caregiver?

Call 084 239 6623 any time (open 24 hours), use our online contact form, or email info@lattydomesticagency.co.za. We discuss your home, tasks, hours and whether you need part-time, full-time or live-in help.

Do I need to visit your office?

No. Most enquiries are handled by phone and online nationwide. Our head office is in Glen Anil, Durban North, if you prefer an in-person discussion.

How quickly can you help?

Timelines depend on your location, role and availability of suitable candidates. Urgent cleaning requests are often prioritised; caregiver roles may take longer to match carefully. Call us for a realistic timeframe for your area.

Domestic helpers

What is the difference between a maid and a domestic worker?

Many clients use the terms interchangeably. At Latty, a domestic worker may focus on cleaning only, cooking only, laundry only, or a combination of household chores — we match based on your written duty list.

Can I hire someone part-time only?

Yes. Part-time mornings, afternoons, certain weekdays and once-off deep cleans are common. Specify your preferred hours when you enquire.

Do you offer live-in domestic workers?

Yes, where suitable accommodation is available and duties are agreed upfront — including off-duty time, leave and house rules.

Who provides cleaning products and equipment?

Most families supply preferred products and equipment. Tell us if the helper should use only your supplies or bring basic items.

Can one person do cleaning and cooking?

Yes — many households want a combined role. Be clear about priorities (e.g. meals vs deep cleaning) so we shortlist the right experience.

Latty Caregivers

What is Latty Caregivers?

Latty Caregivers is our division for in-home support: elderly care, childcare (nannies and child minders), and special needs care. The same agency coordinates your enquiry on 084 239 6623.

Are your carers trained nurses?

Placements range from experienced carers to staff with formal care backgrounds. Tell us the level you need — companion care, frail support, or more clinical experience where appropriate.

Can caregivers also do housekeeping?

Some carers assist with light housekeeping; care needs should come first. Define priorities clearly in your brief.

Do you place nannies for school runs?

Yes, if driving is required — specify licence, vehicle use and insurance in your enquiry.

Is respite care available?

Yes. We arrange short-term relief for family carers as well as long-term placements.

Placements & process

How does Latty match candidates to my home?

We note your suburb, languages at home, pets, schedule, tasks and live-in vs day work. We then suggest candidates whose experience fits your brief and arrange introductions.

Can I meet the candidate before they start?

Yes. Interviews can be in person or by phone/video, depending on location. Many families do a trial day for cleaning roles before committing long term.

What if the placement does not work out?

Contact Latty on 084 239 6623. We discuss what went wrong and whether a replacement or adjusted duties are needed. Terms depend on your agreement with the worker and our placement support.

Do you handle contracts and pay?

We focus on matching suitable candidates. Employment terms, wages and legal compliance are agreed between you and the worker — we can discuss standard expectations during your enquiry.

Are references checked?

We discuss experience and references as part of the brief. Tell us your interview process and any checks you require before start date.

Fees & practical details

How much does a domestic worker cost?

Wages depend on hours, live-in vs day work, skills (e.g. cooking, childcare) and your area. Latty helps you find a suitable person; salary is agreed directly with the worker according to fair practice and your budget.

Is there an agency fee?

Discuss current placement fees when you call or submit the contact form — we explain costs before you proceed.

What about public holidays and leave?

Agree leave, public holidays and sick cover in writing before start date. Many families plan backup cover for annual leave.

Can I hire for a once-off clean only?

Yes. Spring cleans, move-out cleans and post-renovation cleaning are common once-off requests.

Cities & provinces

Do you serve townships and suburbs equally?

Yes. We take enquiries from Soweto, Soshanguve, Umlazi, Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain and all major metros — mention your exact suburb when you contact us.

My town is not on your website — can I still enquire?

Yes. We coordinate placements nationally. Call 084 239 6623 with your town and province — if we can help, we will say so honestly.

Do you only work in big cities?

No. We also serve smaller centres such as Polokwane, Kimberley, Standerton, Kuruman, Ladysmith and dozens of other towns — often by phone-first coordination.

Which townships do you cover?

We take enquiries from Soweto, Soshanguve, Tembisa, Umlazi, KwaMashu, Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain, Gugulethu, Nyanga, Mamelodi, Atteridgeville and many more — always mention your suburb when you call.
